Dr. Laura Schlessinger This story teaches a striking lesson to parents and young people everywhere.Johann Christoph Arnold, author of Seeking Peace She Said Yes is gripping, challenging, and encouraging. Gripping because of the drama. Challenging, because it reminds us how important it is to live each day as if it were our last. Encouraging, because it shows that even the most strained family relationship can be saved by love. The Denver Post A highly personal tale of...a teenager's search for her identity, and hope...during the darkest days.People The story is far more complicated and enlightening than the tiny martyrdom imposed on Cassie after her death....A poignant wake-up call to parents.Publishers Weekly She Said Yes shows how a troubled teenager can be helped, though Misty Bernall doesn?t hold back when describing the emotional toll the process can take. Although she doesn?t see her daughter as a martyr, Bernall concludes that Cassie?s death was, indeed, a triumph of honesty and courage. This powerful memoir honors that courage and reveals Misty Bernall?s own.Christianity Today A story that will chill the heart of every parent, but also bring a strong gust of hope.New York Post Gripping....It?s hard to think of a book that so plainly or powerfully provides families with wisdom for surviving conflict with their souls and sanity intact.Time We expect martyrs to be etched in stained glass, not carrying a backpack and worrying about their weight and their finals. Cassie?s is a mystery story, the story of a girl lost to bad friends and drugs and witchcraft and all the dark places of teenage rebellion. The New York Times Though her final act might strike people as extraordinary...she was in many ways just another teenager.Chicago Tribune From time to time, an example of true moral heroism shows us a case in which someone has the wisdom to recognize a moral imperative and the fortitude to act upon it. When the case involves someone as young and courageous as Cassie Bernall, it is more than heartening; it is humbling and awe-inspiring.

From the Back Cover
"One of the most gripping stories to come out of the shooting at Columbine High School"* is told in the acclaimed national bestseller that illuminates the most remarkable aspect of 17-year-old Cassie Bernall's tragic death: her life.she said yes is an "intense and fascinating memoir" (*Publishers Weekly) of an ordinary teenager growing up in suburban Colorado, and faced -- as all teenagers are -- with difficult choices and pressures. It is only now, when the world knows Cassie Bernall as one of the Columbine High students killed by two rampaging schoolmates, that the choices she made offer a profound relevance for us all. Once a rage-filled young woman who walked a path similar to that of her killers, Cassie found a way out of her personal snares and, through her faith and a family's love, chose to embrace life with courage and conviction.

This book give you an insight of her life and the suffering her family when thought and will still go though.
...read this with my daughter when we visited Denver. By the time we visited the memorial site, she had learned that Cassie died. The book, like the memorial is so uplifting and positive. No grudges here, only hope for healing and a renewed sense of community. Beautiful book, if hard. When this came out, school shootings were still rare. In fact Columbine is the first I remember. Now they're a common occurrence. I think this family's story can be a great tool in helping your kid grapple with this ugly truth, and still have a sense of hope
I finished this book over 3 weeks ago and couldn't put it down until I had finished it. It was a very powerful 2 hours at which I would find myself crying. I don't believe the message is to doubt whether or not Cassie said "yes" but whether or not YOU have the faith to believe in God and to always put God first in your life. I have passed this book on to my Mom and she has passed it on to others....hopefully down the line it will touch each person as it has touched me. To re-examine my own life and my relationship with Christ and how I will help my two beautiful sons grow up to be spiritually wonderful people.

I read all of the online reviews here. I couldn't believe some of the hypocritical things that people had to say. But, we are all hypocrites in one way or another. I think that anyone who truly want's to know what it's like to get your child through tough times, this book is for you.Cassie's mom wrote this book and included letters from friends, and family. It's not a book about the fact of whether Cassie said yes in the library or not. It's a book about the fact that Cassie said yes in her life! That fact is what is important here, nothing else. I personally believe that if the murderers DIDN'T ask Cassie, it doesn't matter, she believed in Jesus Christ and had grown to love him as we all should. I only wish that the teens that I work with in my church were as strong in their faith as Cassie was in hers.I recently attended NCYC, National Catholic Youth Conference, in St. Louis. At the conference, there was a student from Columbine who gave a talk, and explained the ordeals of that day. She told us that the love of Christ was truly present because many MANY more people were supposed to die that day, but didn't. She also said that because of this tragedy many people have turned to God. It's sad to think that it takes a tragedy to get people to turn to Him, but perhaps that's why they happen. At any rate, this book was written by a mother in grief. I personally don't care if she does make the most of this tragedy that she has suffered through. Write a book, make a movie, whatever. Many people, including prisoners make the most of their stories to get through things. They make a ton of money doing it too, but so what? If it gets our attention and helps us understand, isn't that what matters? I think she earned the right to get through her grief any way that she can. And in this book she is doing that, while at the same time she is providing those of us involved with youth an insight to the results that "Tough Love" can provide.Read this book, or don't read it, it's your choice. However, don't criticize the author for taking the courage to write it because her daughter "might not" have said yes in the Library just before her death. The fact of the matter is, she DID say yes in her life.God bless you all.
If you want a good book to read, this is one of them. Just make sure you have a box of kleenex next to you.
