4-1/2 StarsI loved seeing inside the mind of the killer in this story, its not something that always works, it can distract from the couple at the heart of the story, but Rick R Reed makes it work here. I get why Sam is leary to reveal everything to Thad and I equally get why this makes Thad hesitant to completely open his heart to Sam but more than once I just wanted to bang their heads together and scream "Communicate!". Throw in Thad's new friend Jared, which some might call an obstacle to the couple being happy but I call just plain awesome. Jared is a fun character that gives Thad some much needed companionship but it also gives him reasons to guard his heart, to grow, and gives his protective side reason to show.All in all, Dinner at the Blue Moon Cafe is a brilliant read that ticked my paranormal, romance, mystery boxes and it also touched on my love of horror as well making this a perfect read for October.

While this love triangle blossoms, Thad must also contend with the string of murders happening in the gay district. Not just ordinary murders, but savage animal maulings that has the city in a panic. As the murders come closer and closer to Thad, will he live long enough to decide on his true love, or is the murderer a lot closer to him than he knows?Blue Moon Café was the first book I've read from author Rick Reed. Being a huge werewolf fan myself I thought I'd give it a shot. Once I put the book down, I've happily discovered that Mr. Reed has now become one of my favorite gay storytellers today. Rick gives an empathetic feel to his books. His writing doesn't just inform his readers, but makes them feel as if they are a friend along for the ride. Blue Moon Café is one of those books you can't put down. If you're into gay romance or supernatural thrillers, give this book a shot. I think you'll be glad you did.

The Blue Moon Cafe is a well-crafted horror thriller set in the gay community of Seattle. Once a month, someone, or something, kills gay men who are out late and cruising for action. Their bodies are found ripped apart and partially eaten. Meanwhile, Thad, who is temporarily unemployed, has found what may be true love. Sam, the owner of the Blue Moon Cafe, an Italian Restaurant, had arrived with his siblings, mother, and son several months prior, and the fine cuisine he serves is bringing in good business. When Thad stops in and sees Sam, it's practically love at first sight. Thad loves large masculine hairy men, and Sam fits the bill. The relationship starts off on a rocky road, as Sam has his hands full with personal issues and doesn't want to bring Thad into all of his problems, but his heart wants Thad, so Sam and Thad eventually make a go of it. If it weren't for those dreams he has of Sam being linked to a half-man/half-wolf creature, and the fact that there's reports of a werewolf and Sam is never around during a full moon, things would be perfect.This isn't a romance or erotica novel, it's a full-blown thriller. It's nicely written, and Rick Reed effectively brings the plot along at a good pace. There is ample character development for the major characters, and enough detail to bring the story to life. Even little details like the special dishes Sam cooks for Thad are authentic, reminding me of what my own grandparents prepared. The action scenes are gripping, suspenseful, and keep you glued to the page. The creature is frightening, and scenes involving it bring you inside its head, allowing you to know exactly what it feels and what it's about to do. It's quite effective.A minor little quibble here and there keeps me from giving it fully five stars, but man, it comes close.

I loved this story about a werewolf stalking the gay community of Seattle. The horror scenes were violent and bloody enough to satisfy any genre buff, and the love scenes were very hot. I subtracted a star for one reason: Thad Matthews, the main hero, is one of the most annoying characters I've read in a long time. I just could not relate to him or get into him. Two men in the book, Sam and Jared, are both in love with him, although I can't figure out why. With Sam, Thad is needy and clingy. After a month of dating, he practically demands to know where he is and what he's doing every minute of every day. With Jared, Thad is something of a c*&%tease. One day, he's leading him on, and the next, he's pushing him away. Still, I was able to overlook my dislike of Thad and just enjoy the story. Rick Reed is one of my favs, and I usually always enjoy his books. If you like gay romance, or a good werewolf story, I recommend it.
