Review

Praise for Still Me:“Delightful." --People“Full of charming antics. . . Entertaining.” –Associated Press  “Still Me offers a warm conclusion to the Me Before You trilogy. . . resulting in the best entry in the trilogy yet. . . Moyes has crafted a clear-eyed tale of self-discovery and the sacrifice required to live a life honestly in pursuit of the things you love. [It will] keep you sighing with delight to the very last page. A.” —Entertainment Weekly (online)“Jojo's work never fails to bring a smile to my face with her honesty, humour and empathy about what it is to be human—[Still Me is] a must read!” —Emilia Clarke “While the series may have started off as a romance, Jojo Moyes has turned Louisa Clark's story into one about learning to be, and to love, yourself.” —Bustle“You sobbed through Me Before You. You sped through After You. And now, Lou is back in Still Me. . . don’t miss this funny, romantic third installment.” —HelloGiggles“Entertaining, often very funny. . .” —Newsday“Moyes’s easy way of making you instantly care for her characters (deeply) prevails.” —goopPraise for After You:‟Jojo Moyes has a hit with After You.” —USA Today “Think Elizabeth Bennet after Darcy’s eventual death; Alice after Gertrude; Wilbur after Charlotte. The ‘aftermath’ is a subject most writers understandably avoid, but Moyes has tackled it and given readers an affecting, even entertaining female adventure tale about a broken heroine who ultimately rouses herself and falls in love again, this time with the possibilities in her own future.” —Maureen Corrigan, Fresh Air, NPR  “The genius of Moyes . . . [is that she] peers deftly into class issues, social mores, and complicated relationships that raise as many questions as they answer. And yet there is always resolution. It’s not always easy, it’s not always perfect, it’s sometimes messy and not completely satisfying. But sometimes it is.” —Bobbi Dumas, NPR.org “Charming.” —People  “Expect tears and belly laughs from Me Before You’s much-anticipated sequel.” —Cosmopolitan  “Moyes is at her most charming here, writing with a sense of humorous affection about family dynamics among working-class Brits. . . . A Maeve Binchy for the 21st century.” —Kirkus Reviews “[A] heart-tugger.” —Good Housekeeping “Like its predecessor [Me Before You], After You is a comic and breezy novel that also tackles bigger, more difficult subjects, in this case grief and moving on. . . . We all lose what we love at some point, but in her poignant, funny way, Moyes reminds us that even if it’s not always happy, there is an ever after.” —Miami Herald “Once again, Moyes delivers a heart-wrenching and relatable book about love and loss that will stay with you long after you’ve finished.” —InStyle.com   “Moyes wisely knows that life-changing events don’t always change our lives for the better. . . . After You may not be the sequel you expect, but it is the sequel you needed.” —Entertainment Weekly Praise for Me Before You: “A hilarious, heartbreaking, riveting novel . . . I will stake my reputation on this book.” —Anne Lamott, People “When I finished this novel, I didn’t want to review it: I wanted to reread it. . . . An affair to remember.” —The New York Times Book Review “An unlikely love story . . . To be devoured like candy, between tears.” —O, The Oprah Magazine “Funny and moving but never predictable.” —USA Today (four stars)

This is the Louisa I was waiting after Will’s death.. discovering herself.. using her full “potential” as Will said.. This is the book which you just can not put away.. you have to find what happens next. It shows how Lou has evolved since last we saw her in After You. That Lou was mourning over Will’s death and not doing anything else. When there is an entry of Josh and details about how he looked same like Will, I was skeptical. William Traynor has left his “stamp” on Lou and no one could replace him. There are some point in this book where Lou’s stint at Gopniks have stretched far too much. Though it supported the real plot, but I think if we could have got some of her struggles with new business then her success was more enjoyable than reading letters. Will’s letters made me sad though.. Something about it makes me want to read Me before you again..To be honest, this is the better version of Louisa than After you! Loved it!

Loved it. Stayed up until 2am to finish it all in one go. Its not easy to write the "after" - after the first great love, after the first great heartbreak, and even after the find yourself again and fall in love again. I was doubtful Moyes could make this work, but she did. Beautifully. This story is funny, tender, wry, romantic, self reflective and so much more. I hated to see it finish. I appreciated the more richly diverse characters we meet in this novel also.A great read.

I should have known that I was going to ugly cry while reading Still Me since this makes the 8th Jojo Moyes book that I’ve read, and I’ve never been able to read one of her books without being an emotional mess! Moyes is so wonderful at tugging on her reader’s heartstrings, and no character does it better than lovely, sweet Louisa Clark!Lou is back for a 3rd time in Still Me, and I for one was thrilled to read about a character who I had grown to love so much in the first two books. I was also glad to reconnect with past characters, like her family (her parents always make me laugh) and the Traynors, that I’ve grown to love too! While I agree with many that After You was not as good as Me Before You (I did thoroughly enjoy book 2 even if I didn’t love it like I did book 1), I can’t say that about Still Me since I felt it was almost as good as the first (honestly, nothing can top Me Before You)!In Still Me, Lou is finally living up to the promise she made to Will to live boldly and say yes to new experiences. She’s left her family and her boyfriend, ambulance Sam, in England and moved to New York City to be an assistant…and secret keeper…to Agnes, the younger, second wife of the extremely wealthy Mr. Gopnik.“You always have one foot in two places. You can never be truly happy because, from the moment you leave, you are two selves, and wherever you are one half of you is always calling to the other. This is our price, Louisa. This is the cost of who we are.”Lou quickly finds out that it can be very lonely trying to figure out who you really are in a new place while the people you know and love the most are continuing to live their lives. She feels torn between what she wants in England, with Sam, and the life that she is making for herself in NYC. Who is Louisa Clark? It was so wonderful to see Lou grow and blossom in this book. Her journey to discover just who she really is and what she wants is poignant, heartbreaking, and heartwarming. She meets some unexpected people along the way who help her remember that she is still Lou but better and that remaining true to herself is the only path she knows how to take.Moyes writing, as usual, is superb and she brilliantly shows us the scenery of NYC, the parties, the crowded streets, and more. She is an author who makes me laugh and cry, and I did so much of both with Still Me since Moyes always seems to get Lou in the wildest situations! Moyes has definitely become an auto-buy author for me, so I can’t wait to see what she writes next!I love Lou, I truly do, and I hated saying goodbye to her, but I felt that Moyes gave her a happy ending, on her own terms which is all that I’ve ever wanted her to have. It was an utter joy to spend time with Lou one more time…Highly, highly recommended!

I usually reserve 5 stars for literary masterpieces. But I will give this a heartfelt 5 stars. Obviously it isn’t news to all of us who are fans of this series that this is book 3. I think book 2, After You, was somewhat of an emotional let down based on the fact that Will had given Louisa what he thought were the tools for a life after him and she kinda blew it. I admit I was somewhat disappointed after Book 2 but that’s life. We don’t always follow the path that perhaps was intended for us. But if you were somewhat disappointed, you will love book 3! It continues with Louisa as she takes on her job in New York City and builds her character even further. You find yourself rooting for her her ups and sad for her downs. Best news? She’s back to her old self again. Please, if you read the first two, read this one! Loved it.

I loved Me Before You and enjoyed After You, two books I recommend you read before you read the third book in the trilogy, Still Me.In Still Me, Louisa keeps her promise to Will, her love from book one, to say yes to new opportunities. This opportunity brings her from her home in England—and her hunky boyfriend the paramedic Sam—to New York City to be the assistant to a wealthy young wife of a wildly rich man. Louisa acts like something of an emotional bodyguard for Agnes against the society women who assumed she stole Leonard from his first wife because she was just after his money and citizenship (she’s from Poland). There are perks to her job, like going to charity balls in 3,000-dollar dress purchased by her employer, but it puts a huge strain on her relationship with Sam. Can they make the long-distance thing work, or is this going to be the end of them?I laughed and teared up at this book. Moyes does a great job of a putting the character in a terrible situation where you think “Oh no, how is she going to get out of this?” I just didn’t laugh quite as hard or cry as much as I did in Me Before You. Still, this novel is worth your time.

I love this author and this book just made me love her more! Wonderful story, just takes you right in, couldn't put it down_-didn't want it to end!!!!!!

Sports biographies are hit or miss. Many are poorly written or written without the involvement of the athlete at all. Let's face it, for many atheletes, their strength is in their legs and not in their brains. This book is a very pleasant exception. Ohno's intelligence and character shine throughout the book and, as virtually all the reviewers here have written, the book is truly inspiring. As he writes in the book, champions do what nobody else is willing to do. When the competition is over they can be satisfied with any result knowing that they had done their best. A lot of people will tell you this, but Ohno actually did it, lived it, and he has the results to show for it. Is this not a fundemental recipie for a well lived life? This review is of the Audible edition. Ohno reads it himself very well. Highly recommended for anyone interested in the mind of a champion in sports or in life.

I've always found Apolo Ohno's story and successes very inspiring, but to read his philosophies, strategies and life lessons gleaned through his experiences was a real treat. The characters are well-drawn and writing is well-done, so you feel like you really understand the people that are portrayed, and the storyline unfolds effortlessly, even if you're not an insider to the world of short-track speed skating. I, like other readers, am touched by his father's strong character, devotion and tough love, and by their strong bond. It shows you how important parental instincts are...not many would condone or advise what his father was compelled to do when Apolo was squandering away the opportunity to fulfill his capacity for greatness in his sport. What follows afterwards is not only history and the excitement of reliving the drama of the Olympic races, but a glimpse into the heart and mind of a true champion. Apolo overcame much adversity to become a winner--on his own terms--even were it not for the many medals he has garnered.

ZERO REGRETS: BE GREATER THAN YESTERDAY succeeds not merely as a compelling memoir, but as an inspiring motivational guide to mental and physical strength, personal and professional reward, through the pursuit of zero regrets.I loved reading it, particularly the love, respect, admiration, and gratitude Apolo has for his amazing dad, Yuki Ohno. Mr. Ohno himself is an inspiration, and we can all do well to learn from his wisdom, his constant and unconditional love, and unwavering support as Apolo's "hero, best friend, coach, mentor, Dad."Short track speed skating serves as the dramatic medium for Apolo's profound and powerful message; fraught with unforeseen challenges at every turn, seemingly insurmountable obstacles--and in Apolo's case, amazing recoveries and brilliant victories--short track is the perfect metaphor for life, and Apolo the perfect example of living with zero regrets. In the prologue, Apolo states: "I did not want to write a book out of some sense of self-indulgence, or perfectionism, or self-adoration. No. Instead, I simply wanted to make plain what I have learned along my path in the hope that my journey would encourage others to strive for what is needed, to reach for the unreachable, to recognize that everyone makes mistakes but the point is to bounce back stronger."Thank you, Apolo and Mr. Ohno, for sharing so much of yourselves and what you have learned, and encouraging us and inspiring us to be greater than yesterday in this moving, beautifully written book.

The short review? A well-written portrait of a champion who somehow remains humble. The somewhat longer review? I really enjoyed reading Apolo's book. I have recommended it to my students at Clemson and to my family and friends. It is a great portrait of what it takes to become a champion and yet somehow stay amazingly humble. How does he do it? Did someone help him write this and help him keep it humble and well-written? I don't know. Either way, I would love to meet this young man and see for myself if he is truly a great champion both on the ice and in spirit. I particularly liked how Apolo handles the side-effects of short-track skating, meaning that almost anything can happen and he and the other athletes just have to deal with it. After all, there were many times in his skating career that he could have whined about how unfair everything was or complained about not getting the gold medal. But, he didn't. At least in the book, he sounds truly happy with what he has. I find that quite inspirational. I bought this book on my Kindle and will re-read it whenever I am feeling that life is over-whelming or unfair.

Love this book. It's so honest and well-written. Lots of information that the non-diehard athlete would never realize inhabits a winner's mind. I really admire Apolo's pure drive, and I hope he makes another Olympic appearance on the ice before he moves on. His dedication and perseverance have already translated into other things (winner of DWTS - love that show!), and I'm sure he will continue to shine...until the pizza craving kicks in again and he winds up a pudgy "chunk" on the couch in sweatpants and tube socks (and oily bandana) watching old skating tapes and living in the past. NOOOOoooo! I'm sure he won't let this happen. He's way to awesome, that Apolo with one "l". The Winter Olympics wouldn't be the same without him.

#48,350 Paid in Kindle Store (See Top 100 Paid in Kindle Store)

The game is a fascinating look into the world of pickup artists and pickup gurus (who teaches the artists), as well as a personal quest by the author to find himself. There are some bits about the techniques, but they are the 20000 ft level overviews rather than the nitty and gritty details, so you won't become such an artist by reading this. Rather, "The Game" is about how such a game would be played, full of adventures and anecdotes (about how a bunch of foreigners who don't speak Serbian went there because they heard girls there are pretty). A lot of celebrities (including Courtney Love) made guest appearances, but the truthful bits are when the author admits that the routine doesn't always work, and that's when you really know you found the one. Fascinating read

This book was a very good read. As I began, I felt as if my eyes were finally being opened. There was this whole world I had never known. The were so many ways to pick up and talk to women that I thought would never work, or never even thought of. I wanted to try them all out, but I felt as if I should finish reading before I set out on my endeavors. As I read page after page I became more and more interested. I was seeing some of my coworkers in a new light. They acted just like some of the people in this book, some of which I had looked up to. A little more than halfway through, I began to see what direction this book was going in. I am glad I read this book all the way through. I thought that it was women that I was missing in my life. I needed to become a pickup artist, or so I thought. While it is true that women are noticeably absent from my life, that wasn't the source of my emptiness. It was confidence. It wasn't until the end of book that I realized that I didn't need any fine tuned pickup lines. I needed to just be me, but with more confidence. This book has given me the basic tools I need to start conversations with random strangers, to meet new people, which I had been to afraid to do. So what if they don't like me, the right people for me will. All I need to do is get out there and socialize. While this book still makes me want to go out and try to pickup women, it's not to become a pickup artist. It's to further myself in every aspect of my life. Women are my vice in life, my weakness, I am afraid of rejection and thusly, afraid of women. If I can overcome my biggest obstacle with confidence, then there is nothing I can't do. Even though Neil Strauss will never know of me and never know how big of an impact his book has had on me, his book has unlocked the door to my future that I can now begin to open. I cannot thank him enough for writing this book. Very highly recommended! -Steven aka Hoss ;)

"The Game" is a bit like a chameleon in regard to its purpose and how people will interpret it. It is going to be different things for different people. For some it will be a entertaining documentary about an interesting underground community (the seduction one). For others it will be a self help/life changing book. Others a eye opener/oh s*** moment book (particularly for woman who have been targeted with the techniques Strauss describes). And so on. Or maybe all of the above!"The Game" is told through stories/first hand accounts of Strausses experience in the seduction community. He manages to tie in the life/self help lessons in nicely with all the drama of a good story. There's rarely a dull moment but I do have to say that it can seem Strauss is bragging at times and this hurts the flow of the story at times.Personally the book acted as a gateway for me, as I imagine many others, into a much needed self improvement period of my life. I began to realize my self worth, gain confidence in myself and really go out their and make my dreams happen. To look inward for approval rather than bending overbackwards to gain the approval of others. And I think that's where their is a lot of misunderstanding in the public. The seduction community is more than a bunch of creepy pickup nerds trying to bed and use woman. Often men find their way to the community after years of frustration and loneliness stemming from failure with the opposite sex (something they were never taught how to deal with by school or their parents). Maybe they were abused and suffer from extremely low self esteem. Whatever the case guys like Strauss, Mystery (and others) have been there and have done the hard and tiring work of figuring out what the problem is and how to fix it. And now their sharing this knowledge to others to help them. So it's important to have an open mind and not disregard Strauss because of the subject matter he's discussing.I do feel the game leaves you wanting more (perhaps this is by design). I would recommend, actually would require, that you check out Strausses follow up "Rules of the Game". It's much more of a "how to" book and features the style life challenge which is a 30 life changing program. It's the book Strauss could wish he could give to his younger self. It's likely to change your life for ever. While "The Game" & "Rules of the Game" are probably enough for most people those hell bent on mastering romance and or going on a self transformation journey should also check out the following: "No More Mr Nice Guy" (guys), "Why Men Love Bitches: From Doormat to Dreamgirl" (girls), "The Mystery Method", "The Like Switch", "The Solution to Social Anxiety", "Modern Romance", "Text Appeal for Guys", Surival of the S***test", "The Geeks Shall Inherit The Earth", "The Selfish Gene" & "The Rational Male" (volumes 1 & 2)."The Game" has rightfully earned its place as one of the greatest books in recent years. It's crossed into many different areas of people's life and jumpstarted a entire multimillion dollar industry. Do your self a favor and buy this book. It may just change your life (for the best)!

Very insightful book! "The Game" was very popular ten years ago & I witnessed many men attempt the strategies. It was so iconic that I referenced it in Part 2 of my mystery novel -- Firm Resolve. No doubt many women find this book misogynistic. However, perhaps reality is more disturbing. Equally troubling is the misapplication of the principles recommended. Too many guys don't actually read "The Game" & take tips out of context. For example, the negs are supposed to be light-hearted & witty -- not blatant insults.Incidentally, in addition to my own copy which I loaned to two girlfriends, I also bought one for a friend. She thought she was dating a jet-setting banker. However, I figured the guy was a con-artist. It caused a rift btw us because I didn't say what she wanted to hear. Luckily, after reading this book, she got over 'her prince,' and married a nice solid guy who works a less glamorous job, but is a good father and husband. So while this book is supposed to be a self-help for men, it's actually a much better book for women. But I'm sure if I read other reviews, I'll see that what I've written is redundant.
