My fiance and I ordered a couple of these workbooks at the beginning of the year because we were almost completely fallen apart as a couple. We could not get past several issues between us including jealousy, insecurity, sexuality and communication and those road blocks were threatening to be too much for either of us to get past. We were at the verge of walking away when we decided to give it one last chance and try reading these workbooks.At first the workbooks did nothing for us. We did the exercises together, discussed what we read and thought about it and even tried to relate some of it to our own personal lives. We really did give it a good try.Thankfully these workbooks taught us how to communicate and helped each of us to discuss several issues that were hard to bring up otherwise and we even learned other things about each other from the questions in each chapter.Nothing about saving our relationship was easy. It was painful, heartbreaking and more work than either of us thought it would be. We had to work daily to keep progress and not to fall apart, no matter how hard it was we each had to learn how to love the other at our worst.What kept us fighting to stay together was that neither he nor myself could walk away, because we truly do love each other. We just had no idea how to have a healthy relationship coming from broken families and past abusive relationships.This workbook helped open our eyes to what a healthy relationship is based upon (just gave us the very core of what we need to know and helped us to build upon that) and with work we managed to mend our broken relationship.I'm really thankful that we were able to use this as something to build a solid foundation on because a few months after starting the workbook we had to put everything we learned into play. Our situations changed and the break you or make you moment arose where we had to decide on either staying or leaving. We chose to stay and fight to be together. We use what we learned in this book daily, continue to work on what we have and are now sharing a stronger bond than we thought possible.Marriage is really a lot of work and neither of us believe in divorce so as newly weds I would recommend this book to all engaged couples considering marriage in their futures because this book will open up chances to discuss, grow and learn about each other in a safe, healthy manner.

I wish I could rate this book 10 stars! We purchase it for all engaged couples in our lives. I recommend two copies so you don't have to tear pages out (the pages are perforated but it's nice to have all your answers in one place so you don't lose your worksheets. This is also a wonderful momento later in life. I suspect that many couples have decided not to get married as a result of learning about deep differences that they hadn't faced before reading this book and answer the questions.

My husband and I bought this book in lieu of marriage counseling before our wedding last year. It is a very easy read with great activities to do together, including drawing out your family tree and opening discussion for future plans. It was great for us to set aside time each week to do a chapter at a time, reading and participating. For people who are searching for great material to kick start their marriage, this is a great start. Pre ting, finances, spiritually are all part of this. You can use it to discuss and negotiate openly.

Our daughter just got engaged and we are using this for pre-marital counseling for the new couple. Once a week my husband and I meet with them... they are given homework from the book that is thought provoking and promotes working as a team and harnessing the power of each others differences and similarities. I'm a clinical psychologist by profession and recommend this book for all Faith-based new couples.

For the last four years I've used the Getting Ready for Marriage Workbook for pre-engagement and pre-marriage pastoral counseling and have been totally pleased. Virtually every important area which a couple will encounter during their marriage is covered. When used faithfully, the book will bring out potential areas of conflict and help clarify expectations concerning what married life with their partner will be like. The material is presented from a Christian perspective. While this may be a turn-off, as one reviewer commented, it is important that faith issues in general be a component of every pre-marriage discussion, as faith or lack of faith truly enters into a person's worldview and the manner in which family decisions are made. E.g., should I believe you will be faithful to me in our marriage relationship because I trust you and your word as an individual or because I believe you will be faithful to me because I believe your committment to God? In my view, even non-Christians will profit greatly from the materials covered in this book and need not take offense when matters of faith are addressed. My favorite feature of the workbook is the inclusion of covenants which the couple agree to (or determine to leave unagreed upon, at their peril in my opinion). E.g., the "Conflict Resolution Covenant," wherein the couple agrees to certain expectations, responsibilities, and ways of handling differences so as to minimize misunderstandings and deal with the inevitable conflicts constructively. My experience is that the covenants are very useful reminders and tools for promoting harmonius relations well after the marriage vows are taken. In my pastoral counseling I have found that the Getting Ready for Marriage Workbook can be covered thoroughly in five or six sessions with the couple completing a two-chapter assignment prior to each session. The sessions themselves become very productive as the couple will have already addressed the material covered and will arrive with issues that need additional attention, discussion, and insight. A separate workbook for each person is recommended but it is possible for the couple to share a book.

This book challenged me to reconsider how I see God's viewpoint on "Healing". Ken's point- which i have often heard with books like this- is that God wants to heal people. This has been a huge hurdle for me. I grew up thinking that 99% of the time God doesn't want to heal and the other 1% (to be honest) God heals because we convince Him to through our prayer and fasting. I've wrestled also with- if God wants to heal people- then why doesn't he heal some of them- even when we pray? I've always believed that what God wants to do... He does. End of story. and then the reality is- he doesn't heal everybody- so how can I say he wants to heal when the reality is he doesn't heal everyone? I'm still not sure if I've resolved this issue. But this book really challenged me to consider- maybe God is not as opposed to healing as i thought... and maybe he wants to heal a whole heck of a lot more than i thought... And maybe he delights in healing and this can be something that forms the foundation of my prayers as I pray for people... very intriguing book..

I found this book very interesting, when it comes to the differences between suffering and sickness. There's a huge span difference in Scriptures, which I hadn't thought about. Jesus healed all sickness and at the same time, cast out demons. Suffering is for a purpose because of mercy, not sainthood..to help get one back on track with God when one slips... but the church has viewed this type of suffering as the same thing as being sick..and it's not. It would make a parent seem very cruel if all he/she did was discipline their child and never tell them why. Ken Blue makes this mind set come alive with facts taken from Scripture.Good book for those whose heart is to see God's people made well.

One of the best books I have read on this subject. Regardless of how you feel about this ministry it is thoughtful and helpful.

It looks at objections that people have and grapples with the difficult issue of why some people get healed and others do not. I recommend it for anyone hoping to start a healing ministry in their church.

This is one of the best books that I have read concerning the healing ministry. The first section, which covers theological hindrances, is the strength of the work. It will challenge both the skeptic and the enthusiast of divine healing. Blue brings a needed balance to divine healing literature. As a pastor in the charismatic tradition, I highly recommend this book.

This collection is beautiful. A perfect balance of long and short pieces. I own the author’s other 3 books. I always come back to her words. Churchill is in my humble opinion one of the most talented modern day poets I have ever read. I loved the interior of this book as well. Some of the pages are black and they look so cool scattered throughout the white pages. I struggle with anxiety and the part of this book I connected with most is the way the author talks about anxiety and uses beautiful imagery and nature, to soothe and relate. I highly recommend this book. Just beautiful.

Petals Of The Moon really hit me with what I call "the feels." It was raw, emotional, and revealed so much about the poet as well as myself. The heartbreak, loss, and aftermath of losing a loved one. It was empowering, reminding me to push forward no matter what obstacles get in my way. And it resonated with me long after I'd read it. Even now, after three complete read-throughs, each piece holds a special place in my heart and it will forever be one of my most favorite poetry books. If you've ever experienced loss and needed somewhere to look, this is for you.

Obsessed (get it to see what I mean). Every poem shows more and more who she really is and what makes her, her! Layers of emotions peeled through words and poems, page after page. I couldn't put it down. I kept reading even when I was making my tea, book in one hand and stirring in the other!I MUST BUY!

Words will not do justice to how amazing this book is. Her poetry tugs at my heartstrings, that's how beautiful it is. The raw and honesty she inked for the world leave me in awe. I didn't see that this was a Christian leadership book before buying it. I read it anyway thinking that faith and thoughtful leadership can coexist. I still think they can, but this book doesn't do a very good job of picking one or the other. The overall message is pretty much "you don't need permission to act like a leader." It's much more encouraging than it is thoughtful or helpful. There is a lot of repetition and a LOT of biblical references. The leadership advice isn't very good and the biblical references only vaguely reinforce the leadership points in the narrative. If you are a youth minister looking for an introduction to the most basic components of management or leadership to apply in a faith-based setting, maybe you will find this book helpful. Otherwise, I would suggest Start With WHY, or Radical Candor, or Switch, or Difficult Conversations to get a much more practical guide to what good leadership or management looks like in practice.

If you're looking for such "insights" as to "What God Says About Your Identity," this is the book for you. If you appreciate recommendations for Chick-fil-a milkshakes, sentences such as "Awareness is a great first step" and "I want you to imagine yourself five years from now," this is the book for you. The author eked out 225 pages of this stuff, layering in what appear to be sermon set-pieces about "positivity." There isn't a shred of original thinking or research - even in the form of interviews - to be found here. A total waste of money and time.

Excellent book. Heard the author speak about his book on the Andy Stanley leadership podcast and decided to give it a listen. Depending on the audience, this book is probably going to fall short for some. However, for me, I gleaned a lot from the author's experiences, and simply the practical style from which the book is written.To summarize the catch in the book - To lead when you are not in charge takes more introspection of oneself rather than others. How can I improve, how can I serve better - such reflections may not be what others are looking for but was a great reminder in the midst of a serve self leadership culture.I got the audio version, and was very happy with the book. Definitely recommending for those who know they can give more, but feel capped by the boss / leader over them.

Google brought me to this book, and it looked extremely helpful. After starting it however, I found it to be extremely religion focused and unhelpful. I only got about halfway through before having to stop it. The essential message is "you're a vessel of God, he has a plan for you, so just do things your way because itll work out because God wants it to. " Instead of providing real world examples, scientific studies, or any sort of data. The author just shares anecdotal evidence from his own life, and quotes bible passages.Extremely unhelpful with no evidence based tips.

What a great concept for a book and a complete let down. I purchased this book to continue to develop my communication skills. In fact, leading without authority was specifically what I was looking for, so of course I was excited about this book. When I began reading, I discovered that the author is a pastor, which gave me a little pause, but I was hopeful that because the book was not advertised as a book about religion there would be only incidental religious references. The further I read, the more I needed to skip over, until I finally gave up.THIS IS NOT A LEADERSHIP, COMMUNICATION, OR BUSINESS SKILLS BOOK.This is a bait and switch. This is a Christian book that discusses leadership. And its shameful that the author and publisher seem to be okay with conning readers.I'm not sure why people feel that it is okay to inject their religious beliefs into non-religious situations and force their beliefs on unsuspecting participants who, in all likelihood, have completely different beliefs. I am so sick of getting surprise sermons in completely unrelated places.

The bottom line that Clay brings out is that leadership begins before you wear the title of lleader. The best leaders step into leadership roles because they've already demonstrated leadership abilities, not the other way around, so start leading where you are right now. Essentially, it can be boiled down into taking initiative, being a good team member, and helping your leader be a better leader by dint of the support that you provide. Clay nuances it more into the details of what that looks like with skin on, making this a very helpful and encouraging book.

This book was both helpful and humorous, which I greatly appreciated since reading non-fiction isn’t my most favorite thing. This book explains how to start leading right now, no matter what seat you’re sitting in, or whatever your job title might be, and gives applications that readers can start doing right away to gain influence. The thing that makes this book stand out from all other leadership books I’ve read is the Biblical perspective that Clay provides throughout. Not only will those working in ministry benefit from the teaching, but so will business executives, teachers, accountants, plumbers, artists – everyone. If you’ve ever had the thought “if I was in charge…” or “this would work better if…” than this book is for you. Anyone can make change happen if it’s done the right way, and this book will guide you through the process.

About the Author

Clover Robin is a surface pattern designer, collage artist, and illustrator. She grew up in glorious Devon before training at and graduating from Leeds College of Art and Design in 2007, and then earning a master's degree from Central Saint Martins in 2009. Clover delights in nature and all things botanical, inspired by a childhood of woodland walks, countryside rambles, and fossil hunting by the sea. I was new to collage and found this book to be the perfect way to begin. The book is beautifully laid out and easy to use. Plus the artist generously added lots of pages which can be removed when creating collages as well as clear simple instruction on how to prepare papers, ideas on where to find paper to use and cutting, pasting, tool tips. Lots of fun.

I used to do magazine collage and so bought this thinking I might try tissue paper collage, just to experiment with and see how it goes. I was very surprised to see Elmer's glue stick recommended by a serious collage artist for fellow artists. I prefer Nita Leland's (collage artist) reasons on why to avoid it. However, I think if one like myself is just playing around experimenting with tissue collage then Elmer's glue might definitely be the item to choose because it is so cheap. Then if one decides to make something worth keeping, framing or selling, then see Nita Leland's readings on matte glue, brayers, and the like. One would need to do some research on the topic before using glue sticks as an adhesive in any serious art.I am glad I got this book. It did give me some ideas with which to experiment. This book is also recommended for babysitters, nannies, home schoolers, bored persons interested in collage, and art teachers who want some paper, glue, scissors to make collage with their children so as to give them creative outlets, art therapy, etc. So overall, yes, this is a good book.

One of the absolutely loveliest books I have ever owned. Absolutely loaded with charming pictures, ideas and inspiration.After perusing through it and I get to the end, I start again at the beginning and feel like I'm going through it again for the first time. I'm ordering another one for a good friend who does collages and I'm so excited to give it to her, knowing that she will love it!

Love this book. It was just what I needed to take my collaging/card making to the next level. And the wonderful papers that you can detach and use for projects was a lovely added bonus. Thanks so much for sharing so many of your techniques and projects!
