This book I have found to be superb because it explains how to use Apple Cider Vinegar at home, wonderful recipes with it, and best of all, the MANY CURES:+ Aids in skin care including acne, keeping skin younger looking and glowing.+ Aids in treating Acid Reflux - I sometimes get this so I found this so helpful!+ Aids in treating allergies+ Good for using as hair wash - there is a great recipe for using this with shampoo etc for shiner hair.+ Many more healing tips for other health things as: Diabetes, and so much more.Totally recommend this super book!

This reads like it was translated from Chinese or something - I do not recommend this book to intelligent people

I'm surprised that writers don't proofread (or have someone do it for them). There are numerous grammar and spelling errors in it. Always makes me wonder if the contents are correct. Did remind me of a few things I'd forgotten.

A primer in health and nutrition. I took it at face value and tried vinegar twice a day with honey. Not bard, great results in cramps and weight control. Thanks fo the reminder.

Very disappointed in this book. There is very little information on the 53 pages. To sum it up it could have been written on 5 pages...Not at all what I expected.

That's a Dorothy Parker quote, and one I'm quite sure she would have used on this egregious piece of inconstant scholarship and boring, anachronistic repetition. I'm a huge Tudor fan, and I found this book just about unreadable, only plowing through to the finish because I wanted to see how bad it got. Pretty bad. If I had been playing a drinking game every time the author said "I am the Infanta of Spain, the Princess of Wales and destined from birth to rule England!", I'd have been blind drunk in the first hundred pages. She attributes to Catalina. daughter of Ferdinand and Isabella, a deep love for Moorish customs, then a few hundred pages later turns her into a racist bitch about the Moors and a fan of the Inquisition; she perpetuates the Shakespearean canard about Richard III murdering his nephews when even back in the day it's in the public record that they never believed such a thing; she's got all sorts of modern attitudes about sex and feminism that never existed in the 1500s; and, oh, suggests that Henry VII had the hots for his daughter-in-law and that Katherine lied to Henry VIII about her virginity and personally, in armor, led the English army to and at Flodden. A complete waste of time and perversion of history. I won't be reading any of Gregory's work again.

It goes on, and on, and on... with long boring didactic passages, alternating between the third person narrative and the first person by Katherine. I have loved Philippa Gregory's other novels in the Plantagent and Tudor series, but this one is difficult. I suppose I'll finish it, but am discouraged that I'm only 43% through and struggling with the style. After reading other reviews, I also am tempted abort and to read another historical novel about Katherine, which, being more accurate and interesting according to another review, is what I'd recommend, but for me, having bought this, to switch would be a waste of money. Will probably slough through, but struggling.

What I LOVE about this depiction of Katherine (or Catalina) of Aragon is that it's a 100% different take on her as a person, and quite frankly I like it a lot more and almost feel like it's more realistic.Catalina is the daughter of the first monarchs of Spain and one of the greatest Queens of Europe, Isabella of Castile, and I've always had a hard time accepting that Catalina was this simple pious pawn of a Queen married to Henry VIII. She was raised in battle and saw her parents come to power by taking a citadel that hadn't been taken in 700yrs, and then saw them further grow their empire...so she had to be more than that, and there has to be more to her than that...and I think Philippa Gregory has captured that side of her without stretching too far. Catalina is still a Princess (and a woman) in 15th century Catholic Europe with limited power, but Philippa shows us how Catalina has influence over a nation, and over history, despite that.This is the Katherine of Aragon that I want to believe existed. She had strength beyond her piety, she had passion beyond motherly love, and she was an ambitious, intelligent, and strong Queen Regant, not a simple obedient Queen Consort. Philippa shows us that Catalina was a player in her own right- not just a pawn....and I love it!!Next to The Lady of the Rivers, this so far is my 2nd favorite book in this series.

This is the story of Henry VIII's first wife, Katharine of Aragon. It is about her beginning in Spain and continues as she becomes Princess of Wales and then, Queen of England.It is an amazing story. She is born Catalina of Aragon, youngest daughter of King Ferdinand of Aragon and Queen Isabella of Castile. The two managed to run the Moors out of Spain, begin the Inquisition, and unite Aragon and Castile into the realm of Spain. Catalina stays with her mother on the battlefield, learning battlefield strategy and viewing Isabella donning armour and leading the troops into battle. Throughout the narrative, we learn about the great society of the Moors, about their great learning in medicine and science and their tolerance of all religions. Not so the Catholic Isabella and Ferdinand, who drive the Moors and the Jews from Spain and impose Roman Catholic doctrine on all citizens.Catalina has been promised to Henry VII's oldest son, Arthur, since infancy, in efforts towards a union of Spain and England. She has been raised in the belief that her destiny is to be Queen of England. At the age of 15, she is married in England to Arthur and the two take up residence in Wales, since Arthur is Prince of Wales, next in line for the throne. His father, Henry VII is the first Tudor king. Catalina and Arthur loathe each other at first, but soon fall madly and deeply in love. They are only supposed to meet once a week to begin an heir, but through a secret passage, Arthur goes to Catalina and they make mad, passionate love every night.But not for long. In the fifth month of their marriage, Arthur develops "the sweats" (unknown disease, but thought to be caused by bad sewage and water, similar to cholera). Within days, he is dead. Philippa Gregory thinks that on his death bed, he extracted a promise from Katharine, which lie would change the course of English history. In any event, fact or fiction, the lie went down in history as fact. "The lie" enables her to marry the second son, Henry, to become Henry VIII and fulfill her destiny as Queen of England.Katherine is 6 years older than Henry. It takes a few years, during which time she is pursued by the father, Henry VII, and suffers from poverty when she is ignored. But Henry the Younger has quite a crush on his late brother's widow, and finally, they are married.We know that she was eventually supplanted by Anne Boleyn, but there is a lot of living to do before that time is reached. Henry was not trained to the kingship as was his older brother, Arthur and has been vastly spoiled by his grandmother. He remains vain, selfish, willful and hedonistic to the point where Katherine takes over the running of the kingdom by paying bills and assuming all the necessary duties to keep the court afloat and afford Henry's self-indulgent, extravagant life style.This is a magnificent story of a queen who knew how to run a court logistically and when Henry was absent with a war against the French, how to man, supply and lead an army against the Scots, and win it.It is also about her struggles towards motherhood, of babies lost and one, Mary, born. It is a story of her unending, timeless love for Arthur and how she fulfills her destiny to be queen of England through "the lie."Gregory's narration is juxtaposed through a third person account of historical events and Katherine's private thoughts at every step of development.This story of Queen Katherine is a compelling narrative from beginning to end. In the concluding passages as Anne Boleyn appears on the scene, we know how it will all turn against Katherine. There is therefore a touch of sadness for this great woman and outstanding queen, as we realize what struggles she has ahead of her. But that cannot dim, the greatness of her achievements.

I have a copy of his first book on making wet plate positives (now in reprint on Amazon) and figured this would be a great learning resource for making collodion negatives, and salt & albumen prints.The book feels like it is a companion to his collodion negative workshop (which I haven't taken), and seems like there is missing information at times. The printing section starts off with Making Salt Paper where it tells how the salt the paper, but says nothing about coating it with silver nitrate to sensitize it.I'm interested in salt printing and I was hoping for a bit more indepth info on this, not to mention complete info. The albumen sections seem out of order and again missing info on sensitizing the paper. The "Making Albumen" section seems like it is blending the how-to for both making the albumen, as well as making the paper sections, and then is followed by the list of chemicals and other needed items. And again, the sensitizing the paper section lacks detail on how to actually sensitize the paper.The collodio-chloride section says it is by Mark Osterman. The Toning section says it is an excerpt from James M Reilly's "The Albumen and Salted Paper Book" (still in print, 142 pages and less expensive than Quinn's book.) And the last ten pages of the book are copied from a 1935 Kodak publication on making collodion negatives. I guess I'm confused how nearly half of the content in this book is attributed to other authors?The info on making wet collodion negatives may be the only useful part for me. But at $45 for the book, I'm sure this info could be found on the web or in other free PDF copies of historic photo books like Silver Sunbeam.Had I not gotten this book as a gift, I unfortunately would've sent it back and bought something more useful. I really expected much more from an internationally known authority on wet plate photography.

-- Living in the Kennel --The entire story takes place in a kennel where a teenage boy named JC has been locked in along with his dog (Boy) by his stepfather. The entire story revolves around JC’s storytelling as he recounts his life story to his dog, Boy. The author’s use of internal dialog was expertly done and really added a distinctive element to the story.We learn bit by bit that JC is an immigrant boy from Haiti who has gone through one horrendous experience after another: abuse at orphanages, surviving an earthquake and living on the streets to name a few. We learn through JC’s dialog what a tough, resilient and brave kid he really is, and it’s these qualities that allowed him to overcome every difficulty he’s had to face.-- Enter Melanie and The Stepfather --JC’s tells Boy about how he ended up in the United States with Melanie and her boyfriend or husband (I don’t believe their marital status is ever mentioned). We figure out pretty quickly that the “adoption” wasn’t an entirely legal one, meaning Melanie and her partner pretty much snuck the boy into the United States.
JC depicts Melanie in a positive light, and we can tell that he is quite fond of her. Not so much with the stepfather, however; though JC’s dialog, we get the impression that the stepfather resented the boy and made everyday life more difficult for him because of that resentment.--I Did a Bad Thing --We eventually learn the reason how JC and Boy ended up in their current predicament. According to JC, he did **a bad thing** that upset his stepfather so much at the locked JC and Boy away in a Kennel (we do learn what the bad thing is - but I’m not telling!).
Melanie is away during this time so she’s unaware of what’s going on at home. JC’s stepfather visits the kennel with less and less frequency, and JC realizes that he has to somehow get him and Boy to freedom, as their life may very well depend on it.--The Verdict--I wasn’t sure at first whether this was the kind of story I wanted to read. It sounded heartbreaking and indeed, in places it was. But it was also so much more. Though the reader experiences a rollercoaster of emotions as we move through the story, it is also hopeful. No matter what horrors JC experiences, he never seems to get depressed or wallows in despair or self-pity.
It’s interesting to note that there was almost no dialog throughout the entire story — all of it was portrayed through JC’s thoughts and one-way discourse to Boy. In this way, the author did an amazing job of portraying JC’s excellent character voice.
The lack of two-way dialog didn’t mean that the book was difficult to read. On the contrary, the author’s clever use of white space (some pages only contained a couple of sentences) made the book not only readable but added extra intrigue and emotion that kept you turning the page.Yes, as a reader you are shocked at the beginning by the horrifying conditions that the boy and his dog are living in, and you certainly can’t help but tear up many times throughout the book. It’s sad. It’ll tear your heart out in places. But Goodnight, Boy is also a beautiful, moving and hopeful story of an abused boy, his dog and their journey towards freedom. It’s a deep, engaging and original book that kept me interested all the way through, and I’m so glad I read it. Recommended!***Trigger warning: This book contains scenes of child and animal abuse and neglect.***

We share the same last name.I have no idea if it’s HER name or she married into it (mine came via DNA and a father who ensures I know the history). I’ve never met her and as far as I know we’re not related but then my father once told me all the Sheehans are related in one way or another because there really isn’t that many of us. That’s why I said Yes because out of ‘family name’ loyalty.THANKFULLY her book doesn’t suck so I don’t have to lie out of that same loyalty or this could have been awkward.I’ve always adopted shelter pets because I can’t stand to see the animals in cages as if they’re criminals locked up waiting for a pardon or a death sentence in some cases and with Clear the Shelter coming up in a couple of days this book brings on even more meaning and emotions. I already have 2 labs and a black cat but now I feel the need to add to our family.She really knows how to hit you in the gut, and your conscience, with this beautiful but sad story about adoption, love, family dynamics and most importantly the relationship between a boy and a dog.Be prepared to have the Kleenex ready and consider checking out the schedule for your local shelter event.Despite the emotional turmoil you’ll go through reading this JC is such a strong, amazing character you want to stay glued to the pages as if your mere presence will somehow seep through and give him hope, let him know there are caring people in this world.The writing style is easy to get through, great for a younger audience and the pace is on point with no big areas that drag making you regret picking this up. Despite the obvious sadness I’ve referenced repeatedly there are bright moments with humor and hope that help keep this from falling over a cliff of pure depression.I could easily see this being made into one of those emotionally powerful movies Hollywood needs since it is a unique story with a great voice.

This book is not only enjoyable to read, but it is packed full of useful information without being overwhelming; it's got JUST the info any person could want to grow a healthy happy lawn, all in an easy-to-follow format. His straight-to-the-point style of writing, seasoned with his wonderful wit, have made this book my "THE" go-to book from now on for my lawn. I wish I could give it 10 stars!

This book is a great guide especially for professionals. If you don't have this book in your office, you're missing out a lot.

Another hit from Doug Green's publications. In his easy to understand style, Doug tells how to get a healthy lawn using 3 basic ingredients - Compost, Corn Meal and Patience. Step by step procedures walk the reader through the process to a better lawn. Once a healthy lawn is established, weeds, pests and disease will be minimized.

I am being presumptuous with giving it a 5, because I haven't has time to read the entire book yet. But I found relevant information in all the chapters I have read. And the price was certainly great! I subscribe to Doug's online newsletter, and his discussions and information are always so helpful.

Great information

I found this extremely informative and plan on starting with this in the fall. Have recently put in 4 raised vegetable garden beds and trying to go organic, they recommend grass clippings for mulch ( if organic). My lawn is not organic, so I thought I would look into it. This book is short and sweet, tells you what to do when.

This was really good - helpful and to the point. No wasting my time with useless babble.

Short and to the point. Great information in this book without a lot of unnecessary filler.Before purchasing this book, I had been following some of his recommendations with great success. The book simply verified that I am doing the right things and gave me more tricks to use.
