Once again Doug hits it out of the ballpark! This book is not only enjoyable to read, but it is packed full of useful information without being overwhelming; it's got JUST the info any person could want to grow a healthy happy lawn, all in an easy-to-follow format. His straight-to-the-point style of writing, seasoned with his wonderful wit, have made this book my "THE" go-to book from now on for my lawn. I wish I could give it 10 stars!

This book is a great guide especially for professionals. If you don't have this book in your office, you're missing out a lot.

Another hit from Doug Green's publications. In his easy to understand style, Doug tells how to get a healthy lawn using 3 basic ingredients - Compost, Corn Meal and Patience. Step by step procedures walk the reader through the process to a better lawn. Once a healthy lawn is established, weeds, pests and disease will be minimized.

I am being presumptuous with giving it a 5, because I haven't has time to read the entire book yet. But I found relevant information in all the chapters I have read. And the price was certainly great! I subscribe to Doug's online newsletter, and his discussions and information are always so helpful.

I found this extremely informative and plan on starting with this in the fall. Have recently put in 4 raised vegetable garden beds and trying to go organic, they recommend grass clippings for mulch ( if organic). My lawn is not organic, so I thought I would look into it. This book is short and sweet, tells you what to do when.

This was really good - helpful and to the point. No wasting my time with useless babble.

Short and to the point. Great information in this book without a lot of unnecessary filler.Before purchasing this book, I had been following some of his recommendations with great success. The book simply verified that I am doing the right things and gave me more tricks to use.

This is one the best books I have read about he plains Indians.Following Luther Standing Bear, thru his childhood on the plains andexplaining how Teepees are made, how they would skin buffalo and useevery part. All the traditions and customs they had. How they took care of theirown; especially the elderly, who were highly respected and treated with careand dignity.Then we follow Standing Bear, to the modern, white man's world, wherehe realizes for his tribe to survive and himself as well, goes to enroll in the first Indian School...Carlisle School for Indian children, established in 1879. Luther was the FIRST to complete his education here.This is a very well written, first person account of life on the plains and into to the 19th century.Could not put this book down.

I loved the insight into Sioux life, customs and culture. Especially the difference between before and after experience with the white people. I soon became aware of the complete difference between the perceptions of our history, and our teaching after this book. This would be a great source for answering some questions about what were the root cause of the hard feelings and bitterness on both sides.

I have no blood ties to native Americans but greatly feel the tug of the ties of humanity toward them. Their plight makes me so sad. This book increased my feelings. Luther writes in an easy to read way and also in a way that makes you feel close to him even though this book is nearly 100 years old. And even at that, the book doesn’t feel so old—could have been written recently as the struggles continue to be so similar. He writes of his life growing up and then into his adulthood and I couldn’t put it down—took me a couple days to read. His desperation to please his father was heartwarming and inspiring, and it translated beyond when he went to the Carlisle school and further. He wanted so much to be brave and do what was best for his people and himself. So much could be said here!I wish so much that the way America came to be what it is would have been done differently. And it could have been. Though I don’t have the answers, I am grateful to have read this book and been given a better glimpse into the life of the Oglala Sioux, and more specifically, Luther Standing Bear.

This man lived a life that was so vivid and different than can be imagined. To go from living in his tribe to a successful man adapting to so much changes in his life is incomprehensible for anyone to understand. After reading this book, you WILL get a true respect for what the AMERICAN INDIANS were put through and their wholesome way of life as meant to be by our creator.

I have read no better book about Native Americans than this one. It is a great story for white people, and all other non-Indians, and a call to respect these "first Americans". It is also a call for all Native Americans to take their place as full citizens and members of this nation-and never accept anything less than what has been promised in treaties to them. We non-natives must stand with them to insure that they are not allowed to languish in broken promises and poverty.

“My People the Sioux”, by Luther Standing Bear This modest autobiography deserves applause on several counts. It is the self-told reminiscences of a Sioux tribesman whose life bridged the worlds of both the “wild Sioux” of the Plains and the “civilized Sioux” of the early 20th century. The author is quite gentlemanly and writes in such a warm style that the reader will soon think he’s reading a letter from an old friend. Of course he polishes the Indians’ apple a bit but that’s okay and nothing a couple grains of salt won’t ease. The only statement he makes that is laughably off-base is that Sioux women don’t gossip when they work together. There is a lot of information about the “everyday” side of Sioux life and relations that is very interesting. The reader will also see that the Sioux weren’t simply howling, bloodthirsty ghouls who happened to be the best light cavalry in the world. Fact is, they were often active negotiators and cooperators exhibiting an admirable patience, concern and self-control, and often in situations that people of other races might well have “lost their cool”. Very good reading.

This book is unlike any other I have read. . Luther Standing Bear gives a true picture of the life of his people. One can discover the actual facts of the life of an influential man and the way of life of the Indians; not the untrue way they were depicted in movies and other books. I highly recommend this book to anyone interested in the real life of a Sioux. Well done!

This is a fantastic book that is an essential for any child aged 4-5. Hopefully, if you are a parent of a youngster or two, you spend some time reading to your children. It is one of the best things you can do to promote their academic development and later achievement. If not, get to it!This book is great for kids. Kids typically enjoy being read to, anyway, but they enjoy it even more if the book is all about them! That is exactly what this book is: a book that they can fill in with details and pictures about themselves! Not only is it a fun book, but it easily becomes a family keepsake - much like a photo album or a great art project. This is a great book that never goes out of style and makes a great gift!

4/2017 Update: What a WONDERFUL keepsake this will be for our grandchildren! We LOVE Dr. Seuss in our home, where I'd babysat our three grandsons, prior to my daughter-in-law becoming a stay-at-home-mom (talk about a repeat of "empty next syndrome"!) When the oldest one began all day kindergarten years ago, we'd purchased this book and - seeing how much he enjoyed working on it - went ahead and purchased additional copies for the other two boys to have at the ready when it came their turn to start kindergarten. Well, I'm now coming back for a fourth copy of this terrific little book!We've collected every single Seuss children's book, but there are three books in particular that we've now ordered four copies of, because they can be personalized by the grandkids to make them truly "their own"! This one, along with "I Can Write! A Book by Me, Myself" and "I Can Draw It Myself, By Me, Myselff" will become treasured keepsakes, little "snapshots" of where they were developmentally that they can look back on one day with a smile.While the other two are terrific as well, this one is definitely our favorite. SIXTY pages just BRIMMING with fun facts your child fills in about him/herself, and be able to author his/her own little autobiography! This is somewhat along the lines of a baby book you'd receive as a baby shower gift, with pages where your child can trace his hand and foot, etc, but there's oh so much more in the way of fun facts for him/her to fill in to help them remember "where their head was at" at that age, with a little help from Dr. Seuss and many bright, colorful illustrations! Can't recommend this book highly enough!We've thoroughly enjoyed being able to so closely participate in and observe our grandkids' growth and development, and finding new ways to encourage both. These books have been fun tools to use toward that end. We truly treasure our little guys - we'd take a dozen more gladly!

I remember having this book as a child so when I saw they were still available, I I bought this for my youngest daughter, grandkids and a lil cousin who is the same age as my daughter. They absolutely love filling in these books with their information and ever more adding their picture to the front cover. Best customized book ever, without the hight price of personalization!

I purchased this book for my five year old nephew and he was thrilled. I used packing tape around the edges of the photo on the front cover to seal it securely. It looked great and he loved seeing his picture on the cover of the book. He enjoyed filling in the info inside too. This is a great gift to give a child.

My great-aunt gave me this book when I was around 8 years old. My 10 year old grand-daughter LOVES reading it. She reads it 2-3 times a week and laughs her head off. Bought one for each of my kiddos for the holidays, I had the same book 30 years ago. The kids both had SO much fun doing this. Measuring your foot, counting the number of windows and forks in your house, etc. Awesome gift for a birthday- probably best for over age 6.

I had this book as a child and unfortunately lost it due to a house fire. I was so happy to find this book to give to my 6 year old. Over the course of a week we've been filling it out. It's a fun book and I'm sure he'll get a few laughs out of it when he gets older! I will definitely be buying more for my other children and all the children in my life. It will be difficult for you to keep this book and the story of the Armenian genocide to yourself once you have read Eric Bogosian's searing account of what happened to average Armenian citizens: men, women and children living in Turkey for hundreds upon hundreds of years and without warning, in 1915 were systematically wiped out. Bogosian lays the ground work and spares no detail of the horrific killing that continued until there was no one left. The propaganda machine put into effect encouraged villagers to jump on the band wagon with their own pick axes and other farm implements to join in the carnage. The book is a stunning puzzle that creates a horrifying picture of an historical account. It is incredible that the world looked the other way, when it is clear that there were outsiders who knew exactly what was occurring. What happens next in a plan actually called, Operation Nemesis is another amazing piece of history, espionage, and local lore. Local, in that a place called Watertown, Massachusetts, where the author was born, and a place very far from 1915 Turkish Armenia there was a cartel of surviving Armenians who worked cooperatively and judiciously with other such cartels scattered around the world to systematically assassinate those men intimately responsible for the genocide. A fascinating and compelling read that will stay with you.

Is a very good book. A lot of the book is about the history of that time period with accounts of different happenings. The actual writing about Operation Nemesis does not take up that much of the book. I was not aware of Operation Nemesis until I read this book. This book tied a lot of loose end up for me as I had read short accounts of different happenings during this time period. The book did not, in my opinion, spend enough time dealing with the battle of Sarikamish and Ismail Enver or Enver Pasha’s role in the battle plan or leadership he played. These factors may have been a big contributor to what happened during this period of time. Note that I am not an expert in history of this time period or region of the world, just a forever student of historical events. I found it very interesting and will read it again at some future date.

In his historical review of the Armenian Genocide and the assassinations of those who plotted it that followed, Bogosian covers the history of the Armenians' struggles throughout the millennia. His research is thorough, and he documents the details with extensive footnotes and an even more extensive bibliography. But the book is far from a laborious read. He provides extensive bios of the key players (of both the assassinated and the assassins) and adds much color to the lives of the "hero," Soghomon Tehlirian and the other principals (on both sides). This is a great read for all Armenians and should be required reading for all Turks and genocide-deniers.

This is a very timely, thoughtful and captivating book. I didn't expect this kind of book from Eric Bogosian, whom I admire for his Talk Radio and his plays. I actually met him in Los Angeles over 20 years ago as I was starting my own radio talk show and was seeking advice from people who had anything to do with that industry. He stuck in mind as a very modest man, willing to listen and share his thoughts just before his one-man show at the Mark Taper Forum.

Great book because of the fact that it documents the genocide of a people by Turkey and Turkey refuses to this day to take responsibility for what they did. The facts conveyed in this book are an indictment of a country, its leaders and many of its people who were witnesses and were indifferent to this crime.

This book will stay with you a lifetime. It teaches some of the history our system failed to inform Americans about. Sadly, the power for the sake of power is still festering among autocratic regimes today. The outcomes are hideous and devastating. Read but have tissue handy.

Eric Bogosian is not only a wonderful actor but also a passionate writer. As a non-Armenian who had a basic knowledge of the genocide, however, this book gives you a historical context that is phenomenal. Last year we had the privilege of visiting Armenia and this book offers indepth historical information on the sites that we saw. This book should be required reading in college WWI history classes.

Great book filled with so much information and facts I did not know and I have a fairly good knowledge about WWI. The author' s research is amazing.I liked the book but it was not easy to read. The words didn't just flow. It was a hard read and not because of the subject but the style. However, like I said before, it has so much information that I'm sure I will re read it in a few months.
